Whilst on a summer concert tour in Belgium, Maltese soprano Christine Dalli got the amazing honour to not only sing in front of an audience of thousands, but in front of Pope Francis himself.

Dalli was scheduled to perform at the Brussels Expo in Belgium on 28th September for the “Hope Happening” youth event, in front of approximately 6,000 enthusiastic youths. The event, organised by around 40 national Christian youth associations, began with the premise of promoting faith and spirituality especially in young individuals, by hosting workshops, festivals and pilgrimages.

Among the celebrations and musical performances, the audience received a surprise visit from Pope Francis who delivered a touching speech about togetherness and the importance of community. “Make noise and pray,” said the Pope, coining the phrase as the slogan for the night.

“From all the appearances I’ve had on stage, this has been a profoundly touching one and one I will never forget”, Dalli told Lovin Malta, “I was remarkably impressed at the young and energetic crowd with strong sense of belief and passion for Christianity.

Following Pope Francis’ speech, he took a selfie with Christine, the presenters and other representatives from religious organisations. Afterwards, Christine closed the session with one final song for His Holiness.

Congratulations to Christine on the wonderful experience and best of luck to her for future concerts both abroad and locally.
