Matteo, Noah, And Luċija: Check Out The Full List Of Malta’s Most Popular Baby Names Of 2023

The most popular baby names of 2023 were released by the Malta Public Registry, showing a couple of interesting trends.

The most popular names registered for these babies were Matteo, Noah, Luca, and Jack for boys and Emma, Valentina, Julia, and Nina for girls.

Meanwhile, Ġanni and Luċija took the cake as the most popular Maltese name for the second year in a row.

In statistics released about births and deaths in Malta, the registry revealed a couple of interesting things.

Last year, 4,204 babies were born in Malta, 2,162 were boys and 2,042 were girls. This represents an increase of 5.7% (226 babies).

This same year, there were 3,915 deaths registered in Malta, with 1,943 being men and 1,972 women. This means there was an increase of 132 deaths, or 3.5%, compared to the previous year.

It’s noteworthy that the number of registered male deaths increased by four, while female deaths increased by 136.

The Public Registry Office in Mater Dei saw a rise of 79 birth registrations during the past year, while the notifications of deaths decreased by 126.

Moreover, the notifications of death received through post increased from nine in 2022 to 23 the following year.

The online birth and death notification also experienced a slowdown.

In the past year, there were 2,036 marriages registered with the Public Registry of Malta, which is a decrease of 201 marriages compared to the previous year. No Civil Unions were registered, while the number of registered cohabitations rose to 36, up from 31 in 2022.

The Public Registry of Malta last year issued a total of 68,987 certificates of birth, marriage, civil union, and death. Of these, 39,217 certificates (57%) were processed online, while 29,770 were processed by the Public Registry Office in Marsa. Additionally, 52 certificates of cohabitation and 666 Free Status certificates were issued.
