Local charity We Give Joy sent out a call to action last month, aiming to collect colouring and activity books for the paediatrics ward at Mater Dei.
The goal of this initiative was to provide the children of the Disneyland, Wonderland and Fairyland wards with an opportunity to “create something that is aesthetically pleasing” which will “help in the positive development of their personality.”
Their goal was to collect 50 books, one book for each child at the ward, by the end of June. By the end, they had collected 406.
We Give Joy managed to crush their goal thanks to the overwhelming support from the wider community. From young children showing up at their doorstep to local organisations such as Jacob’s Brew helping out, donations came flooding in. Even Agenda Bookshop chipped in and delivered two large boxes of colouring and activity books!
The charity visited Mater Dei yesterday, where they delivered the books to the children’s ward and reported on a Facebook post that the kids “absolutely loved, and appreciated, every single book which was donated.”
We Give Joy also made sure to thank the wonderful and hard working nurses, doctors and hospital staff of Mater Dei “who selflessly take care of all those children that walk through their doors everyday.”
Our highest praise goes out to the people of We Give Joy and everyone involved in this initiative. Amazing work!
