‘Medication Wouldn’t Work And Coffee Wasn’t My Thing’: Maltese Man’s Struggles With ADHD Push Him To Create A New ‘Clean’ Energy Drink

A new Maltese energy drink could soon be hitting the shelves… and it was all born out of one student’s struggle with ADHD.

“This journey began as a personal mission,” Matt Cassar told Lovin Malta. “I was an aspiring PhD student living with ADHD and I was constantly frustrated with my own mental health and inability to focus. Medication wouldn’t work and coffee just wasn’t my thing. One of the few things that helped me personally was energy drinks, but I quickly realised that chugging down cans of traditional energy drinks wasn’t sustainable for my health in the long run. I wanted something that could fuel focus and energy without the crash or artificial additives”

At first, Cassar’s creation was a humble mix of fruit juice and caffeine in his kitchen… but when his friends started asking if they could have some, he went all in.

“I did the research, found the right ingredients backed by science and sourced from all over the world, developed the recipe, bottled it up and sold a few hundred litres as JuiZed,” he explained. “Soon enough, I just couldn’t keep up with production at home and that’s when we had to think bigger. I found a partner in Austria to help develop a shelf-stable recipe to the highest standards in a professional lab, eventually becoming MEYN.”

Last week, MEYN showed up on Zaar’s crowdfunding platform, with an ambitious goal of raising €5,000 in a month. The brand is promising “clean, long-lasting energy” in two different flavours, Tropical Passion and Citrus Berry Blast, “developed here in Malta and perfected overseas”.

Fruit juice, lion’s man, ginseng, maca root and natural caffeine are all quoted as the drink’s ingredients. A couple of days later, the concept has already raised €715, but Matt needs more than that to help make his dream come true.

“We need your support to help bring MEYN Energy to life,” he wrote on Zaar. “By contributing to this campaign, you’re not just helping a local Maltese business grow, but you’re also joining a movement to change the way people think about energy drinks. Your contributions will go towards finalising production and making MEYN Energy available to everyone who’s ready for a healthier energy boost.”
