The Mosta Girl Guides have designed and created their own reusable vegetable and fruit bags to reduce the use of plastic when buying green groceries as part of the European Week for Waste Reduction.

They made these bags out of unwanted material, transforming them into fabric bags that can be used instead of plastic ones, and the girls are still using them weeks after they were made.

“By making the bags themselves the Mosta Girl Guides hope to encourage a wider use of fabric bags when buying green groceries, reducing the unnecessary use of plastic bags and packaging waste,” the Malta Girl Guides told Lovin Malta.

This was part of an initiative organised by Waterserv that occurred last month.

The Malta Girl Guides are the largest Association for girls, young women, and women in Malta & Gozo, with members joining from as little as 5 years of age.

“We form part of the world’s only movement for every girl and any girl because we believe that each of them deserves to be the best they can be – and we do our best to provide them with the tools needed to grow in confidence, develop life skills, and take the lead in their communities.”
