As we’re all wrapped up at home and watching nature wreak havoc on Malta, let’s spare a thought for the people out there working to minimise the damage.

The LOFT Cafe in Naxxar, which is owned by Josette Schembri Vella, the wife of the Prime Minister’s chief of staff Keith Schembri, has announced a random act of gratitude to these workers.

“Free takeaway coffee today to all people in uniform helping Malta get back on its feet during this storm today,” the cafe said on its Facebook page. “Open all day!”

The Dmitri Cafe in Valletta also confirmed it will be offering free coffee and tea to people in uniform in the capital city during its opening hours, till 2pm.

“We are very proud of you and thank you for looking after the people of Malta,” the cafe said.

It comes after a Civil Protection Department worker’s call for the public to offer coffee to workers in the storm went viral and several people shared messages of sympathy for the people on the frontline of the one of the most vicious storms in recent history.
