Two brothers suffering from Zellweger Syndrome, a condition that targets both metabolism and the nervous system, have just been welcomed as the first residents within the newly founded second Dar Bjorn in Żebbuġ, Malta.

Chris and Andrew’s condition is deemed the most severe from the whole Zellweger Spectrum. It’s a hereditary condition and is diagnosed from the infant stage.

Bjorn Formosa, who is the founder of the two care homes, explained that Chris and Andrew initially were being cared for in separate rooms, whereas, within this new home, they will be sharing the same room hence being more practical and in turn more accommodating for the brothers.

The new home in Żebbuġ will ultimately house around thirty patients, who are assessed by Agenzija Support prior to their entry.

It will also have ample facilities which are more outdoor-oriented such as a garden and a swimming pool for therapeutic use.

Upon unveiling the new care home, local talents Il-Kalakku and Etienne Pawney debuted the song ‘Ħin Misluf – Aħna eżempju ċar li l-Mirakli Jsiru!’ in aid to promote awareness apart from supporting the cause itself.

Bjorn has also passed on countless appreciation messages to all who’ve helped along the way supporting both the homes and the patients.
