While several children were out on the streets collecting candy for Halloween last night, four girls from Bormla decided to do something altruistic instead.

Mirea, Sirea, Naomi and Destiny spent the evening knocking on people’s doors, but instead of asking for goodies for themselves, they requested food items for the sake  of people in need. The food was collected inside a box labelled ‘Holy (spirit) ween…God bless!’

“Instead of collecting [food] in the name of darkness, we collected [food] in the name of lightness for the sake of those in need, praise God,” one of the organisers said on Facebook. “In an hour, we managed to collect an entire xirja’s worth of food.”

The initiative was supported by the children’s parents and the Bormla parish priest.
