NPSPD Condemns ‘Distressing’ Mistreatment And Alleged Abuse At Gozitan Home For People With Disabilities
The National Parent’s Society for Persons with Disability expressed how deeply disturbed they are by the recent allegations of physical abuse at the Gozitan home.
This declaration came out after two alleged abusers at the Dar Arka Respite Centre in Għajnsielem were suspended for alleged abuse.
Police are currently investigating the matter, after The Social Care Standards Authority reported the alleged abuse to the police.
“We urge the government to ensure that the ongoing investigations are conducted diligently and with utmost priority to hold those responsible accountable for their actions. It is vital to restore trust in the system,” the organisation stated.
In the statement, they emphasised the need for justice and praised the Ministry for Inclusion, Aġenzija Sapport, the Social Welfare Standards Authority, and the police for taking action.
The National Parent’s Society for Persons with Disability is a non-profit organisation that is committed to ”advocating for the right, dignity, and inclusion of persons with disabilities in society”.
”Dar Arka plays a vital role in providing essential services and support to individuals with a disability and their families. It is distressing to learn that a place meant to offer care and assistance has become the setting for alleged abuse,” the NPSPD claimed.
”We encourage the Arka Foundation and the Gozo Diocese to take immediate and decisive action to address the issue, including a transparent investigation and implementation of robust safeguarding measures.”
It assured that it will be keeping an eye out for any progress made during further investigations.
