Psy For Charity: Maltese DJ Feeds Hundreds Of Children In Goa Through Power Of Trance Music
At its least, club dancing offers a portal of catharsis – a chance to let loose, destress and escape daily mundanity, if only for a little while.
At its best, it can profoundly change lives. One Maltese DJ has taken his beats a step further, to feed families in India and Malta, one party at a time.
Felix Zahra, (aka Human Asteroid) is the brainchild behind Psy For Charity, an event that helps around 350 children in an orphanage in Goa, India since 2019.
“India is the most amazing place in the world. simple yet full of adventures, good times and great opportunities, not only with music but also to find yourself,” he told Lovin Malta.
Seeing people enjoying life with so little and always with a smile can teach you a lot.”
2023 marks the DJ’s sixth year of touring in the South Asian country, and will also see a revival of his yearly Psy For Charity event, which was briefly put on hold during the pandemic.
“The last time we did this party was just before the pandemic hit. We donated lots of essential materials to el Shadaii, a Goan orphanage, but also fun things like games, a printer, instruments and sweets because these things can brighten your day,” he said.
With funds raised during that 2020 charity party, he managed to prepare a lunch feast that fed over 300 children.
His current self-organized tour, which includes the globally renowned Hilltop Club, is also contributing to the livelihoods of people back home too.
Teaming up with Lifeline Foodbank Malta, Zahra says he donated food that helped around 350 local families.
“The aim is simple – to collect money and donate it to people in need through the power of music. This year we split the amount between a local charity and the orphanage, which has a special place in my heart after these years.”
“It feels amazing to create something like this and help out others doing what I love the most, music. Also when you are meeting the actual people that we are donating to it gives you great satisfaction,” he added.
It seems that dance music can change lives in more than one day Well done Zahra!
