The traditional Good Friday night walk has raised €92,500 for Puttinu Cares, a children’s cancer and illnesses support group.

Thousands participated in this year’s walk, which started in Mellieħa and finished in Floriana, walking approximately 20km across the island.

Puttinu Cares announced the amount gathered from the midnight walk on their Facebook page. This will be added to the total sum of the marathon, which will resume tonight at 9pm.

“Thank you to everyone who formed a part of this walk. The sum collected is the beautiful amount of €92,500! THANK YOU from the bottom of our heart,” the organisation wrote.

By 1pm, the marathon had already reached the first million milestone.
