The Run-Up To Down Syndrome Awareness Week In Malta Is Pretty Awesome
Down Syndrome Week is coming up, and the Maltese Down Syndrome Association are busy at work preparing for a series of awesome events, including the filming of a music video at Mdina today.
Last weekend, some of them even got the trending “3 Arrows” tattoo tattooed on them.
“The 3 Arrows symbolise the three 21st chromosomes and how we rise up and move forward. We fly the highest after we have been pulled back and stretched, sometimes even more than we think we can bear,” said Mica May, the American designer and mother of a child with Down Syndrome who created the symbol.
In Malta, Michelle Spiteri, the mother of Francesca, the International ambassador for children Down Syndrome, took these words to heart.
She is one of the organisers of the series of events in Malta related to Down Syndrome Awareness week.
Calling last week’s tattooing event “a total success”, she’s now moving onto the next stage of the plans: a full-on music video, filmed in Malta and involving Malta’s teens and adolescents.
The video is being filmed today.
“We’ll be meeting at Mdina ditch to film children and teens dancing to the song of the movie Trolls that we will use for the official Down Syndrome week launch,” she said.
“On the 17th there will be the launch which is going to be held at the President’s Palace,” said Michelle. “On the 19th we’ll have the Down Syndrome walk that is going to be held from the Torri in Sliema to the Love Sign in St. Julians,”
Down Syndrome Awareness week is from 19th – 25th March.
