“The life of a well-mannered, gentle and kind young man and former Junior College student today came to an abrupt end,” a saddened lecturer posted last night following the death of young Emerson Mifsud. “I am grateful for having been part of your journey on Earth.”

Soon enough, tributes came pouring in, with many in Malta’s student community waking up to the shocking news this morning.

Everyone from Emerson’s fellow classmates to student organisation Pulse took to Facebook to wish their sincere condolences to the young man’s family, with many sharing photos of their own memories with “the big boy with a generous heart”.

“There are no words to truly comfort you,” a family friend told Emerson’s parents this morning. “Think of all the beautiful moments you shared. It’s very difficult to lose a child. Rest in peace Emerson.”

“So brokenhearted,” another former teacher commented. “He was always gentle, sweet, kind, exemplary and a very smart student. He had a bright future ahead. I’m beyond speechless. I hope he is at peace and condolences to his family and friends. Farewell, dear Emerson. You’ll be terribly missed.”

An avid table tennis player and massive Manchester United supporter, Emerson had just taken to Facebook two days ago to wish his 18-year-old friend Matteo Grima a speedy recovery after a traffic accident left the young man fighting for his life. “I’m sure we’ll see you again, as strong as we’ve come to know you,” Emerson’s supportive message read.

“Words can’t express how saddened we are to hear of the loss of our student,” local table tennis academy Top Spin posted last night. “We will surely not forget your beautiful character, kind heart and your disposition to help others.”
