Bjorn Formosa, the inspirational ALS sufferer and activist, has informed his followers that he will have to undergo further major surgery and that he doesn’t know what its outcome will be.
“We’re back here at Mater Dei but this time it’s BAD,” Bjorn said in a Facebook post. “Unfortunately, I will have to undergo major surgery and it’s always a coin flip of whether I will wake back or not.”

On a more positive note, he confirmed that a Xarabank episode on 25th October will be a fundraiser for Dar Bjorn 2, a proposed state-of-the-art home and hospital for patients battling ALS and other neurological conditions.
“That is more important than my personal issues,” he said. “XARABANK 25th OCTOBER WE NEED TO RAISE FUNDS TO OPEN THE NEWER & BIGGER DAR BJORN! We are now more motivated than ever to deliver this unique project in Malta to the Maltese people. Please keep us in your prayers so I can come back and continue where we had left!”
Bjorn was diagnosed with ALS in 2015 when he was only 28 and he has spent the following years raising awareness about his degenerative condition. He launched Dar Bjorn, a home-hospital for patients with neurological conditions in 2017, and has since been campaigning for a larger Dar Bjorn in Ħaż-Żebbuġ.
