Today would have marked the 60th birthday of Maltese investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia who was assassinated in front of her Bidnija home in 2017.

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, posted a tribute to the late journalist, emphasising that she was “more than the warrior we often remember her as”.

Daphne was a mother, daughter, sister, wife. She was sharp, witty, and incredibly brave. She laughed, she loved, and she lived a life cut too short by those who could not accept that ‘one woman with a laptop’ stood in front of their malign ways. As we continue this fight for some semblance of justice, we remember Daphne—smiling.”

Meanwhile, PN MP Graziella Attard Previ also honoured Daphne in a touching social media post.

“60 years ago, Daphne Caruana Galizia was born today. Like me, she spent her childhood and youth in Sliema and the Dorotei school. Daphne had a dream. She envisioned Malta as a modern and European country and worked to expose corruption.”

“She paid a bitter price, being killed in the most brutal manner, with a public inquiry finding the Labour Government guilty of this. Today, Daphne should still be enjoying her family, as she was not only a journalist but also a woman and a mother. The cry for justice does not stop. I will not rest until full justice is done. I greet you, Daphne, until we meet again.”

Former business tycoon Yorgen Fenech was arrested in 2019 in connection to the assassination and he has since become the longest-serving prisoner to be denied bail in Maltese history. A date for his trial by jury has yet to be set.
