Truck drivers are uniting to organise a fundraiser for Amber, a young girl who was left in critical condition after being hit by a car in April 2024.

A truck show will take place at Ġnien l-Għarusa tal-Mosta this Saturday between 6:30pm and 11pm, and truck rides will be available for a small donation.

All funds raised will go directly towards Amber’s medical expenses and recovery.

Amber, who was 11 years old at the time, was struck by a car on her way to school in Mġarr on 29th April 2024. Thanks to Sergeant Italo Mizzi’s swift CPR intervention, her life was saved, but she remains in a serious condition.

The young girl spent weeks in a coma and eight months in hospital, and she remains in a minimally conscious state. Her mother Kimberley, who had to leave her job to be by Amber’s side, said her daughter needs an intensive neuro-rehabiliation program that isn’t available in Malta.

She said specialists at the Bambino Gesù Hospital in Rome can provide the care Amber desperately needs, but the six weeks of treatment arranged through Mater Dei Hospital are not enough.

“Doctors in Italy have been clear: Amberley requires ongoing rehabilitation for a real chance at recovery. The costs of this essential treatment, combined with travel and accommodation expenses, are overwhelming for our family,” she said.
