‘Truly Humbled’: Maltese Doctor Wins Top European Public Health Award

Maltese doctor Natasha Azzopardi-Muscat has been awarded the Andrej Štampar Medal, a prestigious annual honour by a European public health association.
Azzopardi-Muscat, a director at the Regional Office of WHO Europe, was honoured by the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region for excellence in her field.
“Truly humbled and honoured,” she said. “I’m very much looking forward to reflecting together on contemporary challenges in public health and the role of public health schools and ASPHER in educating the next generation.”

Azzopardi-Muscat graduated as a medical doctor from the University of Malta in 1995 and worked in several health sectors in Malta, including in maternal and child health, metal health and primary care.
Her PhD focused on the Europeanisation of health systems from the perspective of a small state.
She has been a resident academic at the University of Malta since 1999, and in 2003 she obtained her membership in the Faculty of Public Health of the United Kingdom after competing her specialisation in public health medicine.
