Watch: 21-Year-Old Maltese Hulk-Equivalent ‘Genetic Anomaly’ Meets Iconic Bodybuilder Sam Sulek
The Maltese bodybuilding sensation, Svein Falzon, known as ‘Genetic Anomaly’, has taken the internet by storm with a viral video of his encounter with the renowned American bodybuilder Sam Sulek at the Arnold Sports Festival in the US.
Svein, a 21-year-old bodybuilder from Malta, boasting a massive Instagram following of 155k, is frequently likened to the 22-year-old Sulek, not only due to their similar ages but also their comparable physique.
Sulek stands as one of the most prominent figures in the world of bodybuilding influencers, commanding a staggering 5 million followers on his Instagram page.
“People LOVE comparing me to him lol,” Svein shared with Lovin Malta. “There was a massive queue of people to take a picture with him but he saw me and walked up to call me a freak,” he added with a laugh.
“Then, a few hours later I went back to their booth at the Arnold classic meet and greet and they opened up for me so I can get a picture and talk to him,” Svein continued. He explained that due to sleep deprivation, dehydration, and lack of food after enduring 27 hours of travel, meeting Sulek was particularly “cool”.
“When I made it to the expo, people were walking up to me recognising me to take photos,” he said, describing the experience as “crazy”, especially since he was “the only Maltese guy there”. “About 30-40 people took pictures with me. It’s mad!“, he exclaimed, noting that many were asking, “You’re genet1canomaly?” “You’re the guy on Instagram?”
Before this trip, Svein had travelled to the US to train with the renowned powerlifter Larry Wheels and later returned to sign with Dragon Pharma, marking “a total of three trips to the US in less than a year”.
Reflecting on his journey, Svein admitted that “it was quite the trip to go to the US again,” but he deemed it “fully worth it”.
In October 2023, Lovin Malta interviewed Svein, where he expressed his ambition to be “the first guy in Malta to actually get quite far” in bodybuilding. “Most people tell me I’m crazy, but it’s my dream. In Malta, bodybuilding is dead, there’s no one in this generation willing to push themselves to get to pro level,” he remarked.
Now, less than five months later, Svein’s aspirations seem to be on the rise.
