Anthony Delia is getting ready for the challenge of his life.

On Friday morning, Anthony will attempt to kayak non-stop from Marina di Ragusa, Sicily, to St Paul’s Bay for charity.

The gruelling journey is around 94km long, and Anthony estimates it will take him around 18-19 hours, weather permitting. He will leave Sicily at around 1am on Friday morning and is expected to arrive at the beach near Is-Simenta between 8-10pm.

Anthony is also encouraging other rowers to join him on the final leg of his journey.

The former St Paul’s Bay councillor and brother of former PN leader Adrian Delia only started kayaking a few years ago, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, he and a friend kayaked around Malta to raise funds for the SiGMA Foundation to help build a school in Ethiopia and provide medical treatment to patients in Colombia.

Anthony decided to up the stakes this year and hopes to encourage other people to challenge themselves for a good cause.

“I never imagined I would be kayaking like this at the age of 52, so I encourage youths to push on, to think outside the box and to use their energy positively to help those in need,” he said. “If I can do it, you can do it even more.”

Anthony is raising funds for the SiGMA Foundation, the Schools for Africa Malta Foundation, and Smiling With Jerome and his kayak trip is being sponsored by the db Group.
