Watch: ‘Absolute Beauty’ – Adorable And Rare Eagle Ray Pup Was Spotted In The Deep Maltese Sea
An absolutely adorable and rare newborn Eagle Ray was just spotted off the coast of Malta and we’re in love!
This majestic little baby was spotted by local renowned marine photographer and freediver, Henry Copperstone, on his latest dive around our islands.
In a post on Instagram made yesterday evening, Copperstone said that he speculated that this “absolute beauty” couldn’t have been more than a few days old and boasting a wingspan of not more than 20cm.

“It’s definitely a first for me and I’ve seen countless Bull Rays but never an Eagle Ray!” the photographer told Lovin Malta.
Copperstone expressed his joy that this rare species of stingrays is sharing our ocean ecosystem along with the more common Bull Ray population, whose “numbers are still there during the last three years” he’d been researching them.
According to the photographer, both Eagle Rays and the more common Bull Rays are considered endangered species, however, the sight of an Eagle Ray is rarer due to it being a deep water breed.
Have you ever seen a stingray this up close?
