After years working in media, brothers Keith and Fabian Demicoli have finally teamed up for a joint project, and it’s all about Maltese food heritage Down Under.

L-Aħwa Fl-Awstralja sees the Demicoli brothers travel to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, meeting up with Maltese migrants and their descendants and speaking to them over Maltese food.

They speak to a range of people, from an elderly man who moved to Australia as a 17-year-old in the 1950s due to a lack of work in Malta to a cafeteria owner who relocated his business from Gozo to Australia some eight years ago.

Stories include one about a woman who continues to use her late mother’s Gozitan ftira recipe and another about a second-generation Maltese migrant who planted a prickly pear cactus in his garden because its scent reminds him of Malta.

The Demicolis also discover new takes on traditional Maltese food, such as people who dip pastizzi in ketchup.

L-Aħwa Fl-Awstralja is an eight-episode long series that will be broadcast on ONE TV from April till June.
