Watch: ‘Carmen tal-Greenfields’, Maltese Folk Icon, Remembered During L-Istrina Fundraising Event
Greenfields’ singer and Carmen Tanti’s husband Joe Tanti reminisced about five decades of performing with his late wife in a video aired during the 2022 L-Istrina telethon.
Carmen and her husband were frequent contributors to the show with their performances together, having last participated in the L-Istrina production of 2021.
This year she intended to record an interview in which she wanted to pass on a message about the fundraising event, which was very close to her heart.
Unfortunately, she passed away just before this could be done.
Greenfields was a Maltese folk band that debuted in 1970 and has now created several songs which are remembered by many and have become beloved by the Maltese collective unconscious.
Songs like Karozzin, Il-Vapur tal-Art, and Il-Banda ta’ Indrí remain dear to many.
L-Istrina is a yearly fundraising event held on Boxing Day under the patronage of the President of Malta. It aims to raise money for the less fortunate during this period of compassion.
