Watch: Cheating, Divorce, And A Relationship With A Politician – Local TV Presenter Opens Up
Maltese TV presenter Sarah Bajada, who recently announced her relationship with PN MP Alex Borg, has spoken candidly about being cheated on, her divorce, parenthood, and her new relationship, on yesterday’s episode of The SHE Word.
Sarah’s separation journey started bang in the middle of COVID when she was battling post-natal depression.
In the interview, she described her anxiety at the fact that any potential partner that came after her divorce would have “two for the price of one”, given that she has a child.
“I just see this incredible man taking care of a son that is not even his own and I’m in awe of him,” Sarah told interviewer Trudy Kerr teary-eyed, recalling how on Sundays she just sits back, looks at him and wonders, “how is he doing it?”
However, prior to meeting Borg, Sarah had quite a tumultuous ride, having gone through a divorce in the public eye.
“It was like I was getting shamed on my separation,” Sarah admitted, explaining that she didn’t want people to know that she was going through this tough period.
The TV presenter detailed how local media houses went from covering her marriage to its “sudden” demise.
“It was in such a short span of time, and in my case, it was exactly when my son was born.”
“Being a mother for the first time is already a challenge to one’s identity, let alone having to deal with a separation,” Sarah said, adding that since there was infidelity in the relationship, it was “a whole different ball game”.
Sarah then went on to describe how hard it was for her to open up on her separation, especially since “you don’t actually get to hear about TV personalities that speak about their divorce or separation.”
“No one actually speaks about the tough times. All you see on social media most of the times are happy families, you know, like everyone’s united.”
She recalled losing a lot of weight, describing herself as “a walking zombie”. However, the TV presenter kept reminding herself that she wanted to give her son the life she always wanted.
Rather than focussing her energy on the reasons for her marriage’s failure and “feeling sorry” for herself, she explained that she decided to “transfer the energy back” to herself.
“If I used to cook before and then I stopped cooking because I was in this hopeless mess, I started cooking for me and Sam,” she told the show host, explaining that it was from this hardship that she ended up publishing her cookbook.
“The irony of life is that out of the worst time of my life, actually paved the way of my successes today.”
