Derya Kaya honoured the “good-hearted people of Malta” in an emotional tribute to her late sister Pelin.

Derya posted this a few hours after Pelin’s murderer was sentenced to 40 years in prison, exceeding the plea agreement he signed by three years.

“This is for you Lydia Abela, and for all the good-hearted people of Malta, in the hope that such pain will never happen again. Let Pelin be a symbol for a beautiful future,” Derya penned on social media.

Since Pelin’s tragic and untimely death, her sister has taken her on a journey around the world through a gold pendant.

“My sister is with me everywhere. Because this murder is being discussed everywhere in the world. Pelin’s innocence and, unfortunately, the chilling manner of her death touch everyone’s conscience,” Derya once told Lovin Malta.

Derya has travelled to the likes of the United States, France, and Italy, posting frequent videos of the pendant, engraved with Pelin’s image, against the scenery of a new city or state.

This time, she posted such a video with Malta as the backdrop.

Jeremie Camilleri was sentenced to 40 years in prison and ordered to pay a €20,000 fine by Madame Justice Consuelo Scerri Herrera. He pleaded guilty to the murder of the young Turkish woman and had 13 other charges lodged against him, including the threatening of people who rushed to Pelin’s aid, driving under the influence of both cocaine and cannabis, and breaking his probation.

During the compilation of evidence, court experts also testified that Camilleri did not apply the breaks when running Kaya over. Police even had to use a taser to subdue him just before his arrest in the middle of the road during a tense altercation.
Rest in peace, Pelin
