Valletta’s Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Basilica was this morning packed with mourners wearing white and colourful clothes to honour the memory of Malta’s Carnival King, 92-year-old Pawlu Curmi, affectionately known as Il-Pampalun.

The funeral, which was scheduled for 10am, saw a large crowd of people from all walks of life head to the capital to give the popular Valletta figure a beautiful farewell, with a standing ovation erupting inside the church as the coffin was brought in.

The youngest of nine children, Pawlu was born on 12th December 1930, and passed away earlier this week, leaving a gaping hole not only in his Valletta community but in everyone whose life he had touched and brightened up with his colourful charisma.

Rest In Peace Pampalun.
