Watch: Hello Sunrise! Neil Agius Pushes Through Cold Second Night, Passes Mellieħa Starting Point, And Hits 120-Kilometre Mark
While most of us were cosy at home sleeping through the night and as many wake up for the first day of school, Neil Agius has kept on swimming like an absolute machine… and he’s not only made it through his second consecutive night, but is also already halfway down the eastern coast of Malta.
Last night was shaping up to be a challenging one, with Agius feeling very cold very quickly, even before he needed to cross from Gozo to Malta. But at around 1am, he managed to arrive in the mainland, and by the very early hours of the morning, was already being spotted all along the Coast Road, St Julian’s and Sliema.

Now, as sunrise lights his way and the water around him starts getting warmer, Agius and his team are in much better spirits, especially considering the forecasted overnight rough weather did not hit as hard as they feared it could.
Now past his 100-kilometre mark, Neil has completed not only a full cycle from Mellieħa to Mellieħa (which he managed to achieve in less than 48 hours), but is also around 120 kilometres down. This means that, should he go all the way to his intended target of 160 kilometres, this truly is the final part of his behemoth task.
And after all of this insane physical stress, Agius’ team have said he’s “in surprisingly spirits”. What a beast.
Come on Neil, go the distance and show everyone how it’s done!
