The day has finally come – young 10-year-old warrior Henry Mamo has been discharged from hospital, with his mother Lorinda celebrating the heartwarming achievement.

“Couldn’t be more grateful for the wonderful care from his surgeons, doctors and nurses- you’re all amazing- so amazing,” Henry’s mother Lorinda wrote on Thursday. “Thank you to everyone who’s been here with me in other ways, messaging me, calling and being in touch, everyday and when things got really tough- I’m grateful for you all too. The days get long and lonely and you truly helped me more than you know.”

About a week ago, Henry’s condition was “deteriorating” and he had to go into surgery.

Lorinda wrote a sobering post about the “nightmare” of seeing and prepping your child for surgery. “It was, has always been, and will continue to be one of my nightmares – that urgency, that danger, that sense of sheer panic and unknown,” she had admitted. “But the worst of it is that he is older and understands so much more and as the tears stream down my face as I tell him he needs surgery, he is the one telling me that he will be ok. And he teaches me to be strong, again.”

At the start of the month, the inspiring mother-son duo went on Instagram Live from hospital to interact with their followers and let them get to know the bright, witty, and brave boy. During the live, Henry sang his own rendition of the popular song Sunflower where he opened up about the frustrations of not being able to eat or drink during some points of his treatments.

But a couple of days ago, a week after his surgery, Lorinda uploaded a joyful moment: Henry could finally eat again, enjoying his mother’s tasty avocado toast.

Yesterday, Lorinda and Henry were back, this time with a short but triumphant video of the young boy finally exiting the hospital. “It’s been a long month and he braved through it all,” Lorinda wrote in a tribute to her son. “I’m sure I would have been a worse patient.”

Congratulations Henry and well done for being so strong and inspiring so many others online!
