Watch: Maltese Florist Chosen To Help Decorate Vatican Basilica For Christmas
A Maltese florist got to help decorate St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City for Christmas Day.
This is David Grech’s third time decorating the Basilica, having already been invited for Holy Week and a cardinal appointment ceremony, both this year.
Grech told Lovin Malta that his floral designs incorporate over 50m of flowers and leaves, including seasonal flowers, poinsettia, gold-sprayed leaves, roses, cypress leaves, and succulent plants. This includes the floral decorations situated behind the area where Pope Francis will be seated.
He is doing it on a purely voluntary basis, but with the Vatican being the home of Catholicism, it isn’t a stretch to imagine that large parts of the world will get to see his decorations.
“It was quite an experience,” he said. “Sometime in my lifetime I would like the Vatican’s Christmas or Easter floral decoration projects to be sponsored by the Maltese.”
PN MP and MEP candidate David Agius congratulated Grech for his achievement and for “carrying Malta’s name high”.
