Watch: Medical Student Who Was Diagnosed With Leukaemia During Studies Is Soon Graduating As A Doctor

A medical student who was diagnosed with leukaemia in his third year of studies is graduating as a doctor soon, and he is opening up about his tumultuous experience.
23-year-old Isaac Zahra’s transition to life as a medical student at the University of Malta started off rather uneventfully – filled with early mornings dedicated to studying, extensive reading sessions, medical placements, and occasional gatherings with friends.
However, as he progressed into his third year about three years ago, a drastic event altered then 20-year-old Isaac’s course of his life.
“I remember I was commencing the first week of my third year in my studies. I took some blood tests and went to the GP,” Isaac said in an interview with the University of Malta.
“At the end of the day, I received a call. Obviously, things weren’t great, and I got sucked into the treatment process.”
“I received four chemotherapy sessions in Malta and went abroad to the UK to receive a bone marrow transplant. Thankfully, I had a lot of support from my family and friends,” he continued.
It’s been two years since Isaac was declared in remission. “Today I’m well and good,” Isaac said.
“We take life for granted sometimes, and the moment freedom is taken away from you is when you realise this the most,” the medical student added.
“Whenever you have the chance to let someone know that you really love them, or you need to show some affection to someone, don’t let the chance slip.”
