Watch: MP Alex Muscat Starts Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro To Raise Funds For Puttinu Cares
Labour MP Alex Muscat has today embarked on a personal challenge – climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds for Puttinu Cares.
“Today is the day we start climbing the mountain,” Muscat told his followers in a video. “We are about to register at the Kilimanjaro Gate and then start climbing for around 6-7 hours to reach the first camp.”
“Staying in touch with you will be tough because there won’t be any internet on the mountain so this could be my last video for the next eight days. Hopefully I make it to the top with the rest of the group.”
At 5,895 metres, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in the world.
Muscat told Lovin Malta last month that he has been planning to take on the challenge for quite some time now.
“Initially, my cousin was also interested to partake in a similar adventure, came up with the idea of the climb, and we were greatly encouraged by our mutual determination and willingness to complete a challenge that involved physical and mental training for it,” he said.
“Eventually, when I started preparing myself for the climb, I decided I should do this for a good cause and not merely for the personal test.”
Muscat is therefore raising funds to refurbish apartments owned by Puttinu Cares in Sutton, which are used by Maltese cancer patients who must travel to the UK for treatment.
