With an umbrella in one hand and his mobile phone in the other, Opposition leader Adrian Delia stood outside Mater Dei in the rain this morning to vent about Malta’s notorious traffic gridlock.

The footage shows a common scene in Malta, a massive traffic jam in between the hospital and the roundabout between the Birkirkara bypass and the San Ġwann Industrial Estate.

“It is really worrying that the road leading up to Mater Dei and the new Oncology Centre is this packed with traffic at 10-11am and that it takes 20 minutes just to drive from the Birkirkara Bypass to the hospital’s main entrance,” Delia said. “This is really worrying and the government must answer for it.”

Delia visited Mater Dei today and, in a Facebook post, said he wasn’t satisfied by what he had seen.

“Stretchers in the corridors, waiting in the lobbies, stuck in traffic…welcome to Mater Dei at 10am in the best of times,” he said.
