Watch: Robert Arrigo’s Final Interview Was So Emotional That Presenter Karl Bonaci Stood Up And Hugged Him
Robert Arrigo was well-known as a politician who wasn’t afraid to speak his mind but his final interview was a particularly emotional one.
On 30th September, a few weeks before he passed away after a battle with cancer, Arrigo was interviewed by Karl Bonaci on the F Living Show.
At the end of the interview, the PN adopted an optimistic tone when discussing the future, stating that more people recover from cancer than die from it.
“There is a good chance so let’s take it. Life is so beautiful and must be lived… let’s do good while living it,” he said.
Arrigo then urged people to be kinder to each other in their day-to-day lives, including when writing comments on social media.
“Let’s be better and not insult each other,” he said. “I am saying this because I received a Facebook post, that has since been deleted, which insulted me for having cancer and which called me Putin. Facebook can hurt. Can’t we better? We can be so much better but it must come from each and every one of us. Let’s do this, boys and girls, I’m going to try but even you.”
Bonaci – who regularly invited Arrigo to his show – was so moved by his guest’s words that he stood up from his seat and gave him a hug on air.
Arrigo died aged 67 earlier this week following a battle with cancer. Just hours after his death, Prime Minister Robert Abela announced plans to nominate him for the Ġieħ ir-Repubblika award in recognition of his service to sports, tourism and politics.
His funeral will be held on Saturday morning at the St Julian’s parish church.
