Mifsud tragically had to have his hands and legs amputated last summer after he caught a virus that developed into severe sepsis. He’s currently wheelchair bound but he set a goal, with Puttinu Cares, to raise €200,000 to help him get bionic arms and legs.

And now, he’s finally raised enough money to afford bionic arms.

“Now what’s left are those activities that you all have organised for me. I’ll try my best to attend, maybe we’ll raise enough for bionic legs and I can fix up my house making it more accessible so that I can be more independent,” he said.

Mifsud has two daughters and a wife who have been by his side through this difficult ordeal. However, he did admit that it has been “devastating” for both him and his family.

“I want to express my gratitude once again to everyone who contributed donations for the cause of my husband. The overwhelming response from the compassionate people of the public has deeply moved me,” Mifsud’s wife wrote on Facebook, captioning the heartwarming video.

“It’s encouraging to witness how people come together to support those in need with genuine empathy. Thanks to your generosity, we have successfully raised sufficient funds to acquire both bionic hands.”

“This support has instilled in us the strength to face the future with optimism, even though the journey ahead is undoubtedly challenging. We extend our heartfelt thanks to those who are organising events to support Shawn, as these activities will help us to purchase bionic legs and various essential items necessary for my husband’s increased independence in life.”
