Watch: Urgent Call to Action – ‘Malta’s Nature Needs Saving – Wake Up!’

A Maltese man has issued an impassioned plea for the public to safeguard the nation’s nature and environment.

In a video from England, an emotional Franklin Borda Scicluna compared the greenery in the UK, including in built-up areas like London, to Malta.

“I used to live here, and you have no idea how much I suffer whenever I come back to Malta, try to breathe and get a panic attack,” he said in the video, which he sent to Lovin Malta after posting it on the Are You Being Served Facebook group.

Franklin expressed his sadness at seeing previously green areas developed, old trees chopped down, and new ones not properly maintained.

“Yes, new trees are being planted but they’ll probably die after a year or so because they aren’t properly maintained and are watered at 2-3pm, the worst possible time because the sunshine shocks them.”

He urged people not to perceive his plea as coming from a state of partisan blindness.

“I am a cleaner, I work with dirt, and I know that all this asthma around us is the result of a lack of nature. If you care about your children, don’t just say how nice Malta is but fight for the right to breathe before we all end up asthmatic.”

Franklin concluded by saying it’s not too late to save Malta but that the country seriously needs to change direction.
