Watch: ‘Without This Experience I Wouldn’t Be Who I Am Today’: Gianluca Recounts His Early Memories With Puttinu Cares

Article Featured Image

When he was just of seven, Gianluca’s family received the news that would turn their lives upside down. He was diagnosed with cancer and his life became a constant turmoil of doctors, hospitals, syringes and different treatments.

He needed to go to The Royal Marsden Hospital in London for further treatment. He was told he had a better chance to survive if both his parents joined him. Puttinu Cares made this possible through their funding.

His family was one of the early beneficiaries of Puttinu Cares. He had to share an apartment with two other patients. He was too young to remember much but luckily he has retained mostly the better memories.

He was given a necklace with beads to mark the good days and the bad and he still treasures it and rekindles his memories with it.

Gianluca still speaks fondly of his doctor and believes that he has saved his life.

Watch the video below which is part of the ‘Survivor Stories’ series, a campaign by SideStreet and Lovin Malta to raise funds for Puttinu.

He is thankful for the support Puttinu gave him which helped him through this extremely difficult and traumatic time. Gianluca does not wish his experience on anybody else but it has made him who he is today.

He is now 22 and reading for a degree in the performing arts.

Puttinu Cares have an upcoming fundraising marathon which will be aired live on all local channels on Good Friday. This year’s edition will run on April 7th, from 9am to 3pm and 9pm to midnight.
