Watch: ‘Your Mother Taught Me The Importance Of Integrity,’ 11-Year-Old Boy Tells Caruana Galizias At Vigil
One of the most powerful speeches during yesterday’s vigil for Daphne Caruana Galizia came from Ethan Mifsud, an 11-year-old boy who directed a heartfelt message to the children of the murdered investigative journalist.
“You don’t know me,” Mifsud started. “In reality, I don’t know you either. But I’ve learnt a lot about you and your mother, who – thanks to her courage – showed what integrity truly means.”
Frequently naming Matthew, Andrew, Paul Caruana Galizia, Mifsud went on to say he was constantly inspired by Daphne, who “was never afraid to tell the truth, until evil shut her up.”
“Your mother showed great courage with her pen,” the young boy said, going on to compare Caruana Galizia with Jean Paul Sofia’s mother Isabelle Bonnici.
“Jean Paul’s mum is showing the same courage that your mother showed,” he stressed. “She’s not afraid in her fight so that no other mother has to lose her son like that.”

“It is which has to give you too courage,” Mifsud told Daphne’s three sons. “The courage which your mother showed is still alive in a lot of people. It’s in Jean Paul’s mother. It’s in the people from Repubblika, who want our country to be cleaned from all of this, so that children like me can have a better country.”
The gathered crowd – which filled up the square in front of the Valletta Law Courts with Maltese flags – kept erupting in applause for the young boy, encouraging him throughout his three-minute speech.
“We will arrive at a time when good triumphs over evil,” Mifsud finished. “We will arrive.”
Ethan Mifsud recently won Repubblika’s Active and Responsible Citizenship Competition.
