‘We Are In Desperate Need’: Malta Foodbank’s Urgent Plea For Help As Stocks Run ‘Dangerously Low’
Stocking up for the indefinitely long and tough time we’ve found ourselves in has become the order of the day for pretty much the whole world, but back in Malta, trouble is looming just over the horizon for the population’s most vulnerable.
“Our stocks are dangerously low and we need your help,” the Foodbank Lifeline Foundation wrote on Facebook this weekend. “We are in desperate need of food!”
The Valletta NGO’s request is simple:
“If you’re shopping at one of the following supermarkets, you can donate even just one item in our collection boxes, and it will make a difference to us.”
The Foodbank has donation boxes at Mosta’s Pama, Birkirkara’s Smart, and Valyou’s Naxxar and Mellieħa branches.
“When an individual, couple or family find themselves in a crisis, arising from situations like benefit delays, low income, homelessness, sickness or housing issues, it can take some time for Care Professionals in Malta to find a long-term solution to help them regain some control of their lives. That is where we step in,” Foodbank Lifeline said of their work.
“We believe no child or adult should ever experience hunger, so we do our uttermost to ensure that these people have enough food to cover them in the short-term, until a more long-term solution is found.”
Formed in the summer of 2015, the voluntary organisation was made official between 2018 and 2019.
“As the years go by we are facing a situation where more and more people need our help,” the NGO explained. “This is where you come in. Without your support we would simply not exist.”
