When Their Classmate From 26 Years Ago Was Diagnosed With A Brain Tumour, These Maltese Men Didn’t Hesitate To Act
They say the friends you make in school will be with you for life, but one Maltese man discovered how true this was himself when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour. In need of specialised medical attention, the man couldn’t have been more surprised when 47 of his old classmates reappeared in his life with one goal – raising money for their friend to get better.
“What impressed me was that it wasn’t one person who we hadn’t seen in years – some of us hadn’t seen each other in a long while, we had lost contact, life is so fast today – and yet we met up from all corners of the world, from America, Nigeria, England, China, and we decided to start this fund for our friend,” said Fabian Vella, one of the classmates.
The cause is gaining traction on social media
Apart from businesses donating to the fund, public figures like Nikki Vella de Fremeaux, lawyer and wife of Nationalist leader Adrian Delia, have urged the public to show support to the group of classmates.
The classmates have set up a fundraising page with the goal of raising €75,000
After being diagnosed with the brain tumour some three years ago, the Maltese man recently relapsed and underwent aggressive treatment that negatively affected his vision, speech and feelings in his hands.
The classmates have found specialised treatment abroad to treat him – but the treatment starts at €75,000, and they might need much more than that. As the sole breadwinner with two children and a wife, his classmates know how important it is that they help out the family however they can.
You can help out by donating to the fundraiser
They’ve already raised €45,000 prior to setting up the fundraising page – but this is just the start. They’ll be organising a number of events in the coming months to to raise more money and reach the target that has been set – and feel free to get in touch via the website if you would like to contribute in a more meaningful way.
