Woman Charged With Stabbing Ex In Sliema Says She Acted In Self-Defence
Sofia Georgantas, a Serbian woman who was recently charged with attacking her ex-boyfriend with a corkscrew and a glass kettle after he proposed a threesome, has spoken out to give her side of the story.
“I acted in self-defence, for I was being pushed and forced onto the floor, I was also attacked with something sharp by my ex, making a cut on my breast skin,’’ Georgantas told Lovin Malta.
Georgantas said that she had been in a relationship with her partner for around two years, during which they would often argue, with the arguments frequently led to violence and abuse,
She added that whenever she would warn him about calling the police, he would blackmail her with a sex tape, threatening to post it on Facebook and show it to her family.
After they broke up a few weeks ago, the ex moved in with a 60-year-old Russian woman.
The occurred on 6th November. According to Georgantas, she and her ex were quarreling over the phone, when he told her he is feeling unwell, asked her to pick her up and sent her his location.
When she opened the door, the new Russian flatmate opened the door for her. Georgantas said she quickly learned that they wanted to have a threesome with her, seeing that both of them were wearing suggestive clothing.
She said that after she plainly refused the “offer”, her ex pushed her onto the floor, locked the apartment and took her belongings, including her phone and car keys, away from her.
“He was not himself,” she recounts, suggesting he might have been drunk or perhaps on drugs.
Georgantas expressed that although she did cause some physical harm to her ex with a corkscrew, it was all in self-defence, and further reiterated that he had “something sharp’’ in his hands, with which he made a cut in her breast area.
She said she never touched or physically harmed the Russian woman, and that they were in separate rooms for most of the time.
The police were called in while Georgantas was still at her ex’s apartment, breaking down the door and taking her into custody. Asked by Lovin Malta who had called the police, Georgantas replied stating the neighbours must have heard her cry for help.
She said that both she and her ex spent some time in the hospital, due to some bruises and injuries they had suffered. Georgantas’ blood tests were taken and no drugs were found in her system.
Last month, Georgantas was charged in court with a number of charges, including inflicting slight bodily harm on her ex, attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm on him and threatening him and the other woman.
A restraining order was given in favour of the alleged victim but according to Georgantas, her ex followed her to a coffee shop after the court case began and forcefully stole her phone to prevent any evidence stored in it from coming out.
This is still an open case, and more details are expected to come out.
What do you make of this case? Do you think Georgantas deserves to be heard?
