Following GoTo Malta’s sudden announcement that it is leaving Malta on 30th September, the electric vehicle sharing app’s former Chief Operations Officer has given a shout-out to the people behind the scenes.

“Though I had sought a new challenge for myself in early 2021, here’s a shout-out to the committed and visionary team that strived through thick and thin to succeed a new mobility service that was being introduced to the Maltese islands,” Liana Cremona wrote on LinkedIn.

“A beautiful, colourful and youthful team of all nationalities and creeds, of much strength and stamina who, during my tenure, ploughed on, even in such a competitive and yet developing mobility climate.”

Cremona said she remains hopeful that future generations will experience a “mindset shift” in vehicle ownership – away from private vehicles and towards shared mobility.

“Have courage, challenge the status quo and fight for a better world than the current one,” she said. “You have the ability to change the world presented to you. It warms my heart that some of you whom I had welcomed to my team were there until the end. You were, and remain, a family to me and I wish you a lifetime of much love and happiness, always.”

GoTo Malta launched in 2018, allowing people to rent out an estimated 450 electric cars, mopeds and kick-starters via app for as long as they need them.

However, the company announced it was leaving Malta for good on 30th September, stating it was left with no option due to “several factors”.

Its announcement came only a few hours after an underage driver crashed a GoTo car into a wall in Swieqi, leaving a 21-year-old passenger fighting for his life.
