A Death In Malta Makes It To Times Top 10 Best True Crime Books List

A Death in Malta, a book written by Paul Caruana Galizia, made it to The Times’ list of the 10 best true crime books.
“It’s a book that no son should ever have to write, but essential in understanding the corruption that led to her murder,” the article written by Joan Smith reads.
The book centres around the assassination of the author’s mother, Daphne Caruana Galizia, one of the most successful and well-known Maltese investigative journalists.
“She exposed one scandal after another, working on the Panama Papers among many other financial stories, until a car bomb ended her life in 2017.”
The article explains that the protests that followed were instrumental in the resignation of former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat. It added that despite there being three people serving prison sentences for the murder, “many questions remain”.
“In 2021, an inquiry accused the Maltese state of creating an atmosphere of impunity that allowed her killers to believe they would face few or no consequences.”
A Death in Malta is a widely acclaimed publication with rave reviews across Malta and beyond. Paul was even awarded the prestigious Cornelius Ryan Prize in New York for the Best Non-Fiction Book on International Affairs.
A Death in Malta not only investigates the circumstances of Daphne’s murder but also celebrates her life’s work, courage, and the profound influence she had on journalism and political transparency in Malta.
