‘An Attack On Children’: Malta’s EU Commissioner Condemns Strikes On Gaza Aid

Malta’s EU Commissioner Glenn Micallef has spoken out condemning any attacks on humanitarian aid bound for Gaza and highlighting the devastating impact on children.
“Humanitarian aid is vital for the people of Gaza to survive — especially for children,” he wrote on X, tagging UNICEF and UNICEF Middle East and North Africa.
“For two months now, children in the Gaza Strip have been deprived of essential goods, services and lifesaving care.”

“Every attack on an aid transport, whether on land or at sea, is an attack on children. This is a blatant violation of international law, in stark contrast to our European values and contrary to basic humanity,” Micallef ended his statement.
Micallef currently serves as the EU Commissioner for Youth, Intergenerational Justice, Sport, and Culture.
His comments come after the vessel The Conscience, part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition which was en route to Gaza, was struck by drones approximately 17 nautical miles off Malta’s coast. The attack caused significant damage, ignited a fire, and disabled the ship.
The Maltese government issued a statement regarding the Conscience, reiterating that while it has offered assistance to those on board, it continues to refuse entry to the ship itself.
