Breaking: Liz Truss Elected As New UK Prime Minister
Liz Truss will become the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after winning an election with 57% of the vote today.
Truss won 81,326 votes in today’s Conservative party leadership election, which was triggered following Boris Johnson’s resignation last July, beating out Rishi Sunak, who won 60,339 votes.
According to some reports, one of Truss’ first major policy decisions could be a freeze on energy bills as a means of tackling the cost of living crisis.
Throughout her campaign, Truss called for tax cuts, arguing growing the economy is more important than trying to reduce wealth inequalities.
“But to look at everything through the lens of redistribution I believe is wrong because what I’m about is about growing the economy and growing the economy benefits everybody,” she told the BBC.
