Degiorgio Brothers Verdict In Daphne Caruana Galizia Murder Case Makes It To International News
Yesterday’s verdict that resulted in jailing the Degiorgio brothers for their involvement in the Daphne Caruana Galizia murder has made it to International news.
In a case which was seemingly hitting a dead end, the sentencing of Alfred and George Degiorgio to 40 years each in prison has been a small yet very significant step.
The verdict has been reported by The Guardian, Al Jazeera, Euronews, Politico, Reuters, BBC, Sky News and Il Fatto Quotidiano, among others.
All eyes have been on Malta on a number of occasions relating to the Daphne Caruana Galizia assassination throughout the years, as justice remains pending.
The reactions to yesterday’s trial and abrupt sentencing have been endless, from her own sons and family to politicians and public figures.
The trial against George Degiorgio and his brother Alfred Degiorgio started yesterday, almost five years after they were arrested at the Marsa potato shed.
The trial ended abruptly following a break in proceedings after the suspects’ lawyer announced that their clients were pleading guilty.
George and Alfred Degiorgio were accused of the assassination of investigative journalist Caruana Galizia, after her brutal assassination on 16th October 2017.
They were arrested in December 2017, along with Vince Muscat, who was last year sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for the murder as part of a plea deal.
This turn of events comes days before the five-year anniversary of the assassination of Caruana Galizia, with a number of events lined up to mark the day.
