Easter Sunday Horror In Sri Lanka As Terror Attacks On Churches And Hotels Leave Over 100 Dead
Sri Lanka has been rocked by a mass terror attack as over 130 people were killed and hundreds more injured in explosions at churches and hotels.
Three churches in Kochchikade, Negombo and Batticaloa were attacked while worshipers were attending Easter service and the Shangri La, Cinnamon Grand and Kingsbury hotels, all in the capital of Colombo.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks, but initial reports state at least some of the attacks are suspected to have been carried out by suicide bombers.
Photos doing the rounds on social media show that the roof of one church had been almost blown off. Several people were seen covered in blood, with some trying to help those with more serious injuries.
Sri Lanka’s prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe condemned blasts as “a cowardly attack”.
“I call upon all Sri Lankans during this tragic time to remain united and strong,” he said on Twitter. “The government is taking immediate steps to contain this situation.”
