First Image Of Titan Submersible Wreckage Revealed During Hearing Into Tragic Accident
The first image of the wreckage from the Titan submersible, which suffered a tragic implosion during its dive to the Titanic last year, has just been revealed.
This came as investigators have just launched a formal hearing into the disaster that claimed five lives, as all five people onboard the vessel were killed last June.
The newly-released image shows the sub’s shattered tail cone lying on the North Atlantic seabed, several hundred yards from the Titanic wreck.
The tail cone, severed from the main vessel, displayed jagged edges, with additional debris scattered nearby, providing clear evidence of the submersible’s sudden implosion under extreme pressure.
The victims of the June 2023 tragedy included Stockton Rush, CEO of OceanGate, businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleman, explorer Hamish Harding, and renowned French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet. DNA analysis confirmed the identities of the remains found at the wreck site.
Remains found were matched to the five men on board through DNA testing and analysis, the Marine Board of Investigation confirmed on Monday.
The hearing, taking place in North Charleston, South Carolina, is set to run until 27th September and will investigate the incident, focusing on factors like the sub’s design, crew qualifications, and safety protocols. Former OceanGate employees have already been called as witnesses.
