German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock praised Malta for its role in the OSCE during a statement outside the MFCC in Ta’ Qali, just before the start of the highly anticipated OSCE Ministerial Council Meeting.
Baerbock praised Malta’s chairmanship, saying: “I would like to thank the Maltese chairmanship for the great work that he is not only continuing in this time while challenged by Russia”.

She also reinforced the OSCE’s importance in safeguarding European security, “The OSCE is and will be made a central piece of our European security architecture here in Malta” she said.
Adding a pointed remark on Russia’s actions, Baerbock stated, “Nor will we allow Russia to play its cynical game of undermining the foundational pillars of the OSCE uncommented.”
The meeting sees 57 delegations from around the world gathering for two days of high-stakes diplomacy, including Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, whose attendance has sparked significant controversy.
