Go Back To Your Country? Eight Maltese Illegal Immigrants Reportedly Set To Be Deported From America

Eight Maltese people could be set to get a taste of the country’s popular saying by being deported from Trump’s America, if online reports are to be believed.

A list of countries whose citizens Trump may deport – along interestingly, the actual numbers of each country – was published by Nigerian online news portal Legit.ng this Friday.

The list, which spans across more than 150 countries, affects over 1.4 million non-citizens, with countries like El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico all having over 200,000 citizens each ordered to be removed from the States.

In the alleged Homeland Security document from November 2024 which was answering how many individuals of the non-detained docket have final orders of removal, Malta does indeed show up, with a mere eight people.

The final number quoted – “1,445,549 noncitizens on ICE’s non-detained docket with final orders of removal” – was supposedly valid as of 24th November 2024.

“ICE is unable to provide a list of case-specific reasons why the agency is unable to remove certain noncitizens on the non-detained docket with final orders,” the document finishes. “There are several reasons why ICE is unable to effectuate removals. Under Title 8 of the U.S. Code, ICE may remove noncitizens from the United States who are subject to final orders of removal issued by an immigration judge or other lawful orders, including those processed under expedited removal who either have not claimed a fear of return or received a negative credible fear determination affirmed by an immigration judge. However, this does not guarantee every person seeking to remain in the United States will be able to do so. There are several reasons ICE may not be able to effectuate the removal of a noncitizen with a final order of removal.”

Meanwhile, with certain Latin American leaders initially threatening to reject the repatriation flights of tens of thousands of its citizens and condemned the practice, Trump has already retaliated with its signature threats.

Just a week and a half ago, Trump issued a number of immigration-related Executive Orders and presidential actions which not only represented a concrete shift in the country’s immigration policy, but also showed a potential teaser of national security policy priorities for the foreseeable future.

And with Trump threatening everything from trade restrictions and embargoes to very much already imposing massive tariffs on goods or imports such as the 25% announcement on neighbouring Canada and Mexico, it’s really anybody’s guess how far this is going to be pushed.
