IDF Opens Fire On Hundreds Of People Waiting For Food In Gaza, According To Health Authorities
Hundreds of Palestinians were gathered around food aid trucks in Gaza when Israel’s military opened fire with tanks and drones, killing around 104 people and injuring 706 others, Palestine’s Ministry of Health reported.
An Israeli official confirmed to CNN that IDF troops used live fire on people surrounding aid trucks, but they argued that the crowd approached the forces in a threatening way. The incident is allegedly under review.
The Israeli military stated that the trucks were being “looted” of their supplies while Gazans were already being injured as a result of “pushing and trampling”.
Amid the chaos, the aid trucks tried to escape the area, accidentally ramming into other civilians and causing more deaths and injuries, according to CNN.
Around 53 deaths were confirmed through arrivals at hospitals in Gaza while the numbers of deaths and injuries are expected to rise.
This is not the first time citizens and aid trucks have been targeted by the IDF. Earlier this month, a United Nations convoy carrying vital food supplies in Gaza was fired at by Israeli forces. This was confirmed through documents shared by the UN as well as an analysis carried out by CNN.
No one was hurt in this instance but essential supplies like wheat flour to bake bread were destroyed.
