Malta’s Civil Protection Department has shared a photo update of the 73 local officers’ first hours of operation in Libya following the sheer devastation left in the wake of Storm Daniel earlier this week.

The team consists of 12 officers from the Armed Forces of Malta, including a medical team, and 31 members from the CPD, and left for Libya late on Tuesday night.

“The Civil Protection Malta and the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) are currently conducting searches on both land and sea for missing persons,” the statement said, sharing harrowing photos of the post-apocalyptic landscape left after catastrophic flooding broke two dams and swept entire neighbourhoods into the sea. “A base of operation was setup at a safe area and searches are ongoing.”

Here’s wishing the best of luck to this contingent of Maltese heroes as they try to soften the blow left by Storm Daniel on the Libyan community.
